Turkey West Cruising Area
Bodrum, Datca, Bozburun, Orhanye, Marmaris
Sailing south east with the prevailing winds towards Knidos. This is one of the best cruising areas in the world with many interesting historic sites and beautiful uninhabited bays.
Starting from Bodrum we sail along the spectacular coast towards the Datca Peninsula. On our route to Marmaris we visit many different bays and ports these could include : Knidos, Datca, Dirsek, Orhaniye, Bozburun, Selimye, Lorimar, Serce, Ekincik, Dalyan, Marmaris
Bodrum - the ancient city of Bodrum, the location of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
Knidos - at the very tip of the Datca Peninsula lies the historic port of Knidos. is covered with ancient ruins including the remains of the Temple of Aphrodite.
Datca - another charming old port with a fantastic range of tavernas.
Orhaniye - the ancient home of one of the oracles and a wonderful secluded bay with delightful tavernas.
Bozburun - a small town harbour surrounded by typical tavernas.
Selimye, Lorimar and Serce - hidden bays along the coast on the way to Marmaris beautiful clear water these bays are wonderful lunch stops.
Ekincik - A beautiful mooring for the night. From here you can go on a trip up the Dalyan River to see the ruins of Caunos with the amphitheatre and the rock tombs. This is the river where the African Queen was filmed.
Marmaris - in the heart of this busy tourist destination is the old town, first built by the Ionians in 1,00 BC. Perched on top is the castle rebuilt by Suleyman The Magnificent.
